Over the last week or so, news has broken about the fabled 7th series of the popular cartoon programme The Amazing World of Gumball. The names for the first 26 episodes have been revealed, letting people guess and speculate what they might be about in the run up to the series’ eventual airing in the cosmic years 2025 and 2026.
However, I think I might be able to give the more excitable amongst you fans a little hint about these episodes. You see, I was tapped by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe to write the 7th series in its entirety. They were looking to find new blood to mark a more passionate return for Gumball and, upon seeing my writing work for Hardcore Gaming 101, messaged me directly for my services. (Makes sense, since video game article writers often transition into work-a-day cartoon writers – the Venn diagram between those two groups is basically a circle.)
Throughout the summer of 2023, I toiled for many evenings to craft the 40 scripts that would serve as the basis for the show’s revival season. I was so determined that I didn’t feel the need to look up the characters’ names nor ask the production crew for feedback before I submitted all 40 episode scripts. I dare say it was some of my finest work, though that wasn’t reflected in the fee I received afterwards.
For fun, I thought it might be neat to post the episode summaries of the initial 26 episodes, based on what I had written. I’d love to post the scripts themselves, but with NDAs being what they are, I don’t fancy spending my dying days with legs that bend at three angles.
Now, it must be clarified that the creation of a TV show is a long and arduous process, during which the show can shift to something slightly or entirely different. It’s very possible that my scripts have been reworked to accommodate things such as the production pipeline, broadcasting standards and the like. There’s even the (admittedly faint) chance that the finished 7th season of Gumball won’t at all resemble what I’d written, which would be a shame.
Still, I hope you understand that, and that you enjoy the episodes your mind pictures from these summaries (which will be updated once the names of episodes 27-40 are publicly revealed).
